Chargers still banged up on O-line
By Bill Williamson
The San Diego Chargers continue to have problems on the offensive line.
Starting tackles Jeromey Clary (knee) and Mike Harris (ankle) and guard Tyronne Green (hamstring) all missed Sunday’s victory at Pittsburgh. Clary and Green didn’t practice Wednesday, but Harris worked on a limited basis.
Also not in practice: linebacker Donald Butler, who has missed the past two games with a groin injury; linebacker Demorrio Williams (ankle); and running back Ronnie Brown (hamstring). The 5-8 Chargers will try to keep faint playoff hopes alive with a victory over visiting Carolina on Sunday.
In Denver, meanwhile, guard Chris Kuper (ankle) and linebacker Wesley Woodyard (ankle) were both limited in practice Wednesday. Both missed last Thursday’s game at Oakland. The team is hopeful both will be able to play Sunday at Baltimore.
Denver quarterback Peyton Manning was close to new Baltimore offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell when Caldwell was Manning’s quarterbacks coach and head coach with the Colts. This is what Manning had to say Wednesday about Caldwell: "I miss being around him every day and I miss his friendship every day. That’s how I feel about Jim.”
Texas A&M alum Von Miller said he is planning to call and congratulate Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel.
