Blogger Blitz: Did Te'o hurt his draft stock?
By Bill Williamson
Notre Dame middle linebacker Manti Te'o has been often connected to the Kansas City Chiefs, who have the No.1 pick in the April draft, and the Oakland Raiders, who have the No. 3 pick. Both teams will investigate the top impact defensive players and Te'o has been expected to be part of that process.
However, his chances of being a top pick may have taken a hit Monday night. Te'o played poorly in a blowout loss to Alabama in the Discover BCS National Championship.
Yes, it may be unfair to judge Te'o for one game in a college career full of outstanding performances. But teams want to see players perform well on the biggest stage. Thus, Te'o’s stock could take a slight hit.
Overall, I still think Te'o will be a top prospect. Yet, if a team is going to spend a top-3 pick on a player, a performance like Monday night could, at least, create some hesitation.
