Chiefs got horrible financial return on 'D'
By Bill Williamson
If the Kansas City Chiefs are going to improve from a 2-14 record last year, they must get better production out of their defense.
The Chiefs, who had four Pro Bowl players on defense, ranked 30th in the NFL on defense. However, according to this report, Kansas City was ranked fifth in the NFL in terms of salary-cap money spent on defense. That was the worst rate in the NFL.
On the flip side, the Chargers got solid bang for their buck on defense. They had the fourth-highest rate in the NFL. They were ranked 10th on defense and spent the 28th most on defense. A big reason is a lot of young, cheaper players developed and played well.
