Chat wrap: Carson Palmer solution?

By Bill Williamson

Here is a look at some highlights from our AFC West chat, which was held earlier Thursday:

Denver

Trevor from Queensbury NY: What kind of pay cut do you expect Denver to ask Elvis to take? And do you think he will accept it?

Bill Williamson: It's 12 mil now, I'd think they want the cut to be fairly significant. So far, I hear he is not excited about the idea. If Denver presses, he may have to guess what the market for him would be and make a decision where he wants to be. This thing is fluid.

Kansas City

Matt from KC: Chiefs need a solid #2 CB. I liked the idea of taking Milliner 1st overall, but now that Winston has been cut, we're locked into OL with the first pick it seems. Thoughts on the best cornerback fits in FA?

BW: I don't think the Chiefs are locked into anything with the top pick. Everything is on the table with a trade being a preference.

Oakland

Ibetonart from Black Hole: Palmer is worth what? 4-5 base with incentives to 7 mil? I want Pryor starting game 1 though. Could Raiders work out a restructure with Palmer with plans to trade him to Arizona for a 3rd & 5th RD pick

BW: I could see that, yes. But Arizona always ball and wait to see him cut. If Palmer refuses a pay cut, Oakland’s only two chances (if there are no trade partners) is to swallow the deal or cut him.

San Diego

Fett from Disneyland: Rivers and Weddle have both said that they would redo their contracts to help the Team out...why wouldn’t the GM jump at the chance to help the cap number?

BW: It depends. Just restructuring for restructurings sakes gets teams in trouble down the road. It's like credit card spending. Have to be smart about it.
