Mailbag: Do Raiders have a magic number?
By Bill Williamson
Mid week mail call:
Steve Holliday from Albertsville, Ala., wants to know if I think the NFL might send the Raiders to New York once. The Raiders play at both the Jets and the Giants. Perhaps they could play one game on Sunday and the other on Thursday and just stay in the area?
Bill Williamson: It’s an interesting thought, Steve. But I’m not so sure the Raiders would be excited about that. They’d have to find a place to practice, and they would be at a real disadvantage. This is just a guess, but I bet the league spreads out the trips. Perhaps one will be early in the season and the other will be played late in the season.
Ramie from Pueblo West, Colo., wants to know if I think the Denver Broncos will draft Michigan State running back Le'Veon Bell.
BW: I think he will be on the list. A lot of scouts like him. I think he could be an interesting choice in the second round. I could see it. I would expect the Broncos will seriously study him.
Joseph Hill from St. George, Utah wants to know how many games I think Oakland general manager Reggie McKenzie and coach Dennis Allen must win in 2013 to save their jobs.
BW: It all depends on how patient owner Mark Davis will be. He showed signs of being impatient last season when he complained about the lack of progress. If Davis continues to see a lack of progress, there could be trouble. I don’t think there is a certain win/loss mark he is looking for. He just wants to see his team get better. I have a feeling Allen is on a shorter leash in Davis’ mind than McKenzie. If think if the Raiders stumble badly, Allen would be in more immediate trouble than McKenzie.
