Branden Albert to sign franchise tender
By Bill Williamson
The Branden Albert situation in Kansas City may be getting interesting.
USA Today reported that Albert will soon sign his franchise tag tender, which is worth more than $9.82 million.
Now that the tag is being signed it could kick start trade talks.
Earlier Monday, we discussed a potential trade partner in Miami. I’m sure the Chiefs would be interested in dealing Albert to recoup the second-round pick it gave up for quarterback Alex Smith. Plus, it may take Texas A&M’s left tackle Luke Joeckel with the No. 1 pick.
The fact that Albert is signing his tender puts salary-cap pressure on the Chiefs. They will likely have to pressure some deals to make room for Albert. So a trade could interest the team. I think it a situation to monitor. If he doesn’t stay in Kansas City, Albert will now be in training camp on time for sure. Last year, Kansas City receiver Dwayne Bowe held out of training camp before signing his franchise tender.

In a radio interview, Brandon Stokley said he hopes to continue playing. Stokley’s future in Denver likely ended with the Wes Welker signing.
Could there be a scenario where the Broncos host Baltimore in the NFL season opener? AFC North blogger Jamison Hensley thinks so because of a conflict the Ravens have with the Orioles.
