The agent for Kansas City running back Larry Johnson said late Sunday night that his client was simply trying to promote his own father and not to discredit Chiefs coach Todd Haley in a Twitter rant Sunday.
Shortly after the Chiefs were drubbed 37-7 at home to San Diego, Johnson posted on his twitter account that his father, the defensive line coach at Penn State, has better credentials than some NFL coaches. Johnson ran down his father’s playing résumé. He compared him to Haley, who was a college golf player.
“I talked to Larry about it and he was focusing more on pumping up his father than anything else,” agent Peter Schaffer said. “He wasn’t trying to downgrade anyone … yes, everyone is frustrated after a loss like this but I wouldn’t put too much into it.”
Johnson had 49 yards on 16 carries in the Chiefs’ defeat. Kansas City is 1-6. It has a bye next week.
