There are some banged up running backs in the AFC West.

The Chargers' participation report Wednesday for Monday night's pivotal game against the New York Jets shows that star running back LaDainian Tomlinson did not practice because of a lingering turf toe injury. Tomlinson has been affected by the injury for the past two weeks. He had just 10 carries for 26 yards against Denver last week.

Tomlinson practiced last Friday after sitting out the first two days of practice. There is word out of San Diego that Tomlinson may not be at full strength for the next three weeks or so and that he may take a lot of practice time off in an attempt to heal.

In addition to Tomlinson, defensive tackle Jamal Williams didn't practice as precaution with a knee injury. Center Nick Hardwick (foot) and left tackle Marcus McNeill (tackle) were both limited in practice. They have both not played this season.

For the first time, tight end Antonio Gates did not appear on the participation list with an injury. He is recovering from a left big toe injury and he has been dealing with a hip injury he suffered in Week 1 against Carolina.

Meanwhile, in Oakland, rookie star Darren McFadden has his foot in a protective boot and he did not practice today as Oakland begins preparation for Sunday's game in Buffalo. Oakland running back Justin Fargas also didn't practice because of a groin injury. The Raiders are supposed to have status reports on both players soon.

In Denver, backup receiver Darrell Jackson did not practice with a calf injury. He could be out for a few more weeks. Center Tom Nalen was limited and he will likely need more recovery time. Casey Wiegmann has been playing for Nalen.
