This history isn't on Chiefs' side
By Adam Teicher
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Figured I should mention this, just in case you’re about to throw down some good money on Super Bowl tickets to watch the Kansas City Chiefs play: Since the 1970 NFL-AFL merger, six teams before this year’s Chiefs have started a season 2-0 after winning two or fewer games the previous season.
Any guesses how many reached the Super Bowl? OK, that’s too easy. Here’s a more difficult one: How many reached the playoffs?
That, too, would be none. Only one of those six teams, the 1980 Lions, even finished the season with a winning record.
So history isn’t with the Chiefs on this one. But if you’re looking for some encouragement, there’s this: Only once in coach Andy Reid's 14 seasons in Philadelphia did the Eagles begin the season 3-0. That was in 2004.
The Eagles reached the Super Bowl that season.
