Power Rankings: No. 30 Oakland Raiders
By Paul Gutierrez
A weekly examination of the Raiders' ESPN.com Power Ranking:
Preseason: 29 | Last Week: 29 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002
After three games, the Raiders are where many thought they’d be coming into the season: one victory -- at home over the woeful Jacksonville Jaguars -- and two losses -- at the Indianapolis Colts and Monday night’s exercise in futility in Denver against Peyton Manning and the Broncos.
The rub? Oakland looked, dare we say, good in defeat to the Colts ... not so much against the Broncos. Not when Manning set a career best with an 86.5 percent completion rate.
The Raiders simply could not stop him as he picked them apart underneath. Yeah, you could say Denver took its foot off the pedal late, but the Raiders also played hard until the final whistle. There were times last year they could not make that claim.
Baby steps, sure, but at this stage of a rebuilding project, they’ll take what they can get. Especially with winless Washington, ranked No. 27, coming to town on a short week for the Raiders, and with quarterback Terrelle Pryor concussed.
