Power Rankings: No. 2 Kansas City Chiefs
By Adam Teicher
A weekly examination of the Chiefs' ESPN.com Power Ranking:
Preseason: 19 | Last Week: 3 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002
The Kansas City Chiefs have moved past the New Orleans Saints and into second place in this week’s ESPN Power Rankings. The NFL’s only other unbeaten team, the Denver Broncos, are ahead of the Chiefs.
The Chiefs and Broncos, perhaps not coincidentally, are the only teams in the top 10 that haven’t played two other teams in the top 10. Kansas City's highest-ranked opponent is Dallas at 13.
So while the Chiefs have earned their 6-0 record, they haven’t been tested as, say, the No. 3 Saints. New Orleans split a pair of road games over the past two weeks with No. 10 Chicago and No. 5 New England.
How would the Chiefs have fared if they had gone through that obstacle course? We’ll never know if they would still be unbeaten, but I’d feel better about their No. 2 ranking.
We know about the Saints, who beat the Bears and lost at the wire to the Patriots. With that evidence in hand, I’d have the Chiefs at 3, behind the Saints.
