Power Rankings: No. 27 Oakland Raiders
By Paul Gutierrez
A weekly examination of the Raiders’ ESPN.com Power Ranking:
Preseason: 29 | Last Week: 24 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002
Coach Dennis Allen insists this is a different team than the one that lost six straight games after improving to 3-4 last season. Yet Oakland has now dropped two straight since getting within a game of .500 and fell three more spots in our weekly Power Rankings. The difference? The Raiders were competitive on the East Coast this time. A year after getting embarrassed at Baltimore, Oakland was more than competitive at the New York Giants and, having basically been gifted 17 points, should have won. Instead, the Raiders have now dropped 12 straight games in the Eastern time zone and are 1-11 on the road under Allen as they are in the midst of a four-of-five-games-on-the-road stretch.
Still, the question now falls at the feet -- and arm -- of quarterback Terrelle Pryor. Regression? He has one touchdown pass and eight interceptions in his last four games, and his confidence in his passing game, especially deep, seems to have waned. He said he has a sprained MCL in his right knee that is affecting his greatest strength: his mobility. The defense showed up, as did special teams. Pryor getting healthy and regrouping is the latest question.
