Source: Chargers close to re-signing Harris
By Bill Williamson
The San Diego Chargers are expected to sign linebacker Marques Harris as early as today, a source close to the situation said Tuesday.
Harris left San Diego in the offseason and signed with San Francisco. He was cut earlier this season. Harris worked out for the Chargers a few weeks ago, but he has a leg injury that delayed his availability.
The Chargers need some depth at outside linebacker. Shawne Merriman is dealing with a foot injury. He could be held of the Chargers’ game at Cleveland on Sunday to rest for the stretch drive. Harris would be the third outside linebacker Sunday if Merriman doesn’t play against the Browns.
Harris has good pass-rush ability and could help then Chargers off the bench. In his previous tenure with the Chargers, Harris was known for his work in the community as well as being a solid role player. It is unclear how the Chargers will make the room for Harris on the 53-man roster.
