The San Diego Chargers are resting several players Sunday against Washington.

The Chargers have the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the AFC playoffs.

The team deactivated linebacker Shawne Merriman, receiver Vincent Jackson, safety Eric Weddle, defensive lineman Jacques Cesaire and receiver Legedu Naanee. All five players are dealing with nagging injuries. They should be fine to play in the postseason.

San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers is expected to start, but he is expected to be spelled by Billy Volek.

Meanwhile, the Oakland Tribune is reporting receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey and running back Justin Fargas are among the Raiders’ inactive players for Sunday’s game against Baltimore.
