Evening AFC West news and notes
By Bill Williamson
Wednesday, so far at least, was another quiet day for the Tom Cable watch in Oakland. Cable is supposed to discuss his future in Oakland with owner Al Davis at some point soon.
There has been heavy speculation that Cable, 9-19 as Oakland’s coach, will be fired. Still, Davis has not made any public announcement, either way.
Preparing of a potential opening, the Oakland Tribune reasons that Steve Mariucci, with his major Bay Area experience, would be a good candidate if Cable does get shown the door.
The Chargers enter their AFC divisional playoff game against the visiting Jets on Sunday as healthy as they have been in week. Only punter Mike Scifres was on Wednesday’s injury list. Still, he practiced fully with groin issue. At this point, it should not be a concern.
Here is a look at a potential divorce in New England between the Patriots and receiver Randy Moss. If that does occur, I wonder if former New England defensive coordinator Josh McDaniels would consider Moss in Denver. The two had a good working relationship. With Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall perhaps on his way out from Denver, there could be an opening. Might be worth keeping an eye on down the road.
