JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Oakland Raiders signed offensive lineman Jack Cornell to the active roster off the practice squad Saturday in time for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.

Defensive lineman Brian Sanford was waived in the corresponding roster move.

The Raiders already announced six players were out for the Giants game, including right tackles Matt McCants (toe) and Tony Pashos (hip), and center/left guard Andre Gurode (quad) is questionable, so Cornell potentially adds depth on the offensive line.

Cornell played in the Raiders’ 27-17 victory over the San Diego on Oct. 6.

Raiders work on trench depth

As expected, the Oakland Raiders attempted to improve their thin roster through the waiver wire.

With the trenches being a huge issue in the preseason, Oakland claimed defensive end Brian Sanford from Cleveland and guard Antoine McClain from Baltimore.

McClain is massive. The Clemson product is 6-foot-5, 336 pounds. He could be an interesting depth piece for Oakland. He was on the Ravens’ practice squad last season.

Sanford was with Cleveland for parts of the past three years.

Oakland reportedly added receiver Greg Jenkins, guard Lamarr Mady and tight end Brian Leonhardt to the practice squad. The team has not announced any members of the eight-man squad.
