The Kansas City Chiefs announced several additions to their scouting department Friday.

General manager Scott Pioli hired Phil Emery as director of college scouting. Emery was previously with Atlanta and has 12 years of NFL experience.

The Chiefs also added Jim Nagy as a regional scout and Jay Muraco and Pat Sperduto as area scouts. Nagy and Muraco worked with Pioli in New England.

The team announced that Ray Farmer will stay on as the team's director of pro personnel. Earlier this week, the team fired several members of the scouting team, including college scouting director Chuck Cook and personnel executive Bill Kurarich.

The Kansas City Chiefs continued to make changes to their front office Wednesday by firing vice president of player personnel Bill Kuharich on Wednesday after a morning meeting.

The ax has been flying in Kansas City. Several scouts, including college scouting director Chuck Cook, were fired Monday, a day after the draft.

Due to the new regime, the firing spree in Kansas City is not a total surprise. Scott Pioli took over as general manager in January. He is expected to put a nearly new front office together this spring.

One of the few remaining holdovers thus far is director of player personnel Ray Farmer. He has one year remaining on his contract.

Former Kansas City head coach Frank Gansz died Monday. He was the team's coach in 1987-88. The team released a statement on his passing:

"On behalf of my family and the entire Kansas City Chiefs organization, we are deeply saddened by the loss of Frank Gansz," Chiefs Chairman Clark Hunt said in the statement. "In his over 30 years in football, Frank was a tremendous coach, a beloved teacher and an outstanding person. He will be missed."

The Chargers have announced that cornerback DeJuan Tribble and tight end Scott Chandler were cut on Monday. Tribble was a sixth-round draft pick last season. Chandler was a fourth-round pick two years ago.

There is a report that Chiefs director of college scouting Chuck Cook was let go.

San Diego linebacker Shaun Phillips was cited for battery. He denies any wrongdoing.

The Broncos, Chiefs and Raiders have signed some rookie free agents.

Tony Gonzalez is planning to have a press conference in Kansas City to thank fans for his 12 years in town. He was traded to Atlanta last week.
