Mid-week mail call:
Sergio G. from Tustin, Ca. wants to know if Oakland could pursue Texas quarterback Colt McCoy in the second round.
Bill Williamson: Well, it is clear Oakland is looking for a new quarterback. It seems like the Raiders are looking for someone who could help right away. It has been reported the Raiders are considering both Donovan McNabb and Sage Rosenfels. If the Raiders can’t find a veteran, I would think a young quarterback will be taken. McCoy will be intriguing. If he is available at No. 39 (he should be taken in the early portion of the second round), and the Raiders have a good feel for him, it could be possible. But McCoy is not the big, strong-armed quarterback that Al Davis covets. However, JaMarcus Russell is that type of player and he has been a disaster, so maybe Davis will take a flyer on McCoy.
MJ from Phoenix wants to know if Denver would trade receiver Brandon Marshall to Washington for the No. 37 overall pick and either receiver Malcolm Kelly or Devin Thomas.
BW: That’s interesting. I think it is clear Denver will have to settle for a package for less than the first-round pick it currently wants unless a team steps up in the next three weeks. This proposed package could be interesting if the Broncos believe in Kelly or Thomas.
Brian from San Diego wants to know if Tennessee running back Montario Hardesty could be a fit in San Diego or Oakland.
BW: I think Hardesty probably has a better chance of landing with the Chargers than the Raiders. San Diego will be looking at running backs with either the No. 28 or No. 40 picks. Hardesty is a hard runner who San Diego has on its list of options. This is a strong running back class and San Diego will end up with a good player. It could be Hardesty.
