A closer look at the shooting death of Iowa coaching legend Ed Thomas, the former high school coach of Denver center Casey Wiegmann.
My take: This is heartbreaking. Thomas was known long before he rebuilt his school's football stadium last year after a deadly tornado. He was famous for producing four current NFL players out of a tiny town. He was a coach you rooted for. This one hits home.
The Kansas City Star suggests new safety Mike Brown could be a starter or he could be cut by the end of the summer.
My take: If Brown is healthy, expect him to make an impact. But health is always the issue for Brown. He stayed healthy in 2008 for the first time in a few years. Brown is a playmaker and a leader. He can help.
A low-budget Asian airline is being criticized for new a partnership with the Raiders. (Thanks to a reader from Hong Kong for pointing this out).
My take: The Raider Nation is, indeed, global. Funny stuff.
The San Diego Union-Tribune looks at what makes top pick Larry English tick.
My take: This is a nice view of English, the pass-rushing linebacker San Diego took at No. 16 from Northern Illinois. Everything I've heard and read about English is off the charts. He seems like a first-rate person. He also seems like he could be a find on the field. The Chargers have been extremely impressed by his offseason work. He will get a chance to be an impact player as a rookie.
