The Chargers announced their trade for Houston defensive lineman Travis Johnson and four other moves.

The team signed seventh-round draft choice Demetrius Byrd. He is still recovering from injuries from an auto accident a week before the draft. Byrd was considered a mid-round pick before the accident. He is not expected to be able to play this season.

San Diego also cut three players: receivers Greg Carr and Rodgeriqus Smith and tackle Dan Gay. All three players were signed as unexpected free agents this year.
