Catching up with some early headlines in the AFC West:
Oakland quarterback Bruce Gradkowski is back and ready to go after suffering a chest injury in the offseason. There has been some speculation that perhaps Gradkowski’s roster spot is in jeopardy because Kyle Boller has looked good and he has history with new Oakland offensive coordinator Hue Jackson.
Still, Gradkowski almost has folk-hero status in Oakland after the way he played last season when he spelled JaMarcus Russell. I have a hard time thinking Al Davis will say goodbye to Gradkowski. Now that he is healthy, it is his time to cement his roster spot.
Speaking of the Raiders, they are rocking new inspirational T-shirts, proclaiming that they will win the AFC West and then take a shot at the Super Bowl. My reaction: Those types of shirts are being modeled throughout the NFL this summer. Training-camp bravado is chic in the NFL.
In an Insider piece on ESPN.com, KC Joyner believes San Diego receiver Malcom Floyd is an unsung hero. If he has a big season, he’ll be unsung no more.
Sports Illustrated has a fun look at the best players in NFL history by jersey numbers. The AFC West is fairly well represented.
