Evening AFC West news and notes

5/20/2010

Former Kansas City Chiefs’ defensive linemen Jimmy Wilkerson refuted Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe’s clams that veteran players “imported” women into the team’s hotel prior to a win over San Diego in 2007. Bowe made the claims in ESPN The MagazineInsider, which hits newsstands Friday.

Wilkerson stated that security is so tight on road trips that bringing in women would be impossible. I’ve stayed at several different team hotels often over the years and Wilkerson is right. Security is airtight. Wilkerson made it sound like Bowe may have to deal with some of his teammates over the comments.

San Diego restricted free agent Travis Johnson is working out with the team despite not signing his tender. The team’s high-profile restricted free agents are not attending.

The Chargers revealed their plan for a spiffy, 62,000-seat stadium. The plan is for it to be near Petco Park. It looks nice, but there is a long way to go before this dream becomes a reality.
