The Denver Post is covering Brandon Marshall's battery trial from Atlanta.

My take: This one-day trial is of interest to the Broncos. If Marshall is found guilty, he could face additional NFL discipline. He was suspended for the first game of last season for off-field issues.

Kansas City

Coach Todd Haley has purposely avoided going into Arrowhead Stadium since he has been hired.

My take: The first-year head coach will enter this weekend as the Chiefs begin the preseason. I'm getting the feeling that Haley is going to have success. I've been impressed by the way he's gone about his business since taking over.

Derrick Brooks says the Raiders have some interest in him.

My take: I think Brooks may wait to see what New Orleans is going to do. He worked out for the Saints this week. Not many teams are interested in the linebacker, but he could provide good leadership. Here's one sticking point for the Raiders' chances of landing him: Warren Sapp. The former Raider is close friends with Brooks from their Tampa Bay days. Sapp has made a cottage industry of criticizing the Raiders since his retirement a couple of years ago. I would think Sapp would try to discourage Brooks from ending his career in Oakland.

San Diego

Kynan Forney appears to have won the battle at guard.

My take: Forney may be safe for now. The Chargers are very high on rookie Louis Vasquez. He has been out for a week with an injury, so his chances of winning the job any time soon are over. But if Vasquez rebounds well after the injury and Forney falters, the battle could be on during the regular season.

The Chargers released fullback Andrew Pinnock and placed center Cory Withrow on injured reserve. He suffered a hamstring injury at San Francisco in the preseason finale Friday.

To replace those players, the Chargers signed tight end Kris Wilson and offensive lineman Kynan Forney. Wilson, a second-round draft pick in Kansas City in 2004, was cut by Philadelphia Saturday. Wilson gives San Diego depth in the wake of the team putting Scott Chandler on injured reserve Saturday. Forney gives San Diego depth on the offensive line. Most of Forney's experience is at guard.

It is unknown if his signing will affect San Diego's interest in the Willie Anderson. The Chargers talked to his agent Sunday. The tackle was cut by Cincinnati on Saturday.

With Pinnock gone, rookie Mike Tolbert is set to get most of the playing time at fullback.. The undrafted free agent has been the star of training camp and the preseason.
