Elvis Dumervil injury not serious

The Denver Broncos dodged a potential serious injury when an MRI showed no tears on the injured shoulder of standout pass-rusher Elvis Dumervil.

Denver coach John Fox said Dumervil received the good news Monday. Fox said Dumervil has a muscle strain and he will be day-to-day. The Broncos have a key game Sunday against visiting San Diego.

Dumervil was hurt early in the Broncos’ 36-14 win at Carolina on Sunday. Dumervil has seven sacks this season and is a big part of a much improved and dangerous defense.

Meanwhile, Fox said returner Trindon Holliday has been talked to about finishing returns. On his 76-yard punt return for a touchdown Sunday, Holliday appeared to flip the ball out of his hands before he reached the end zone. Still, it was called a touchdown.

“He’s got full instructions from Jeff Rodgers, our special teams coach, to bring the ball all the way back to him,” Fox said. “Bring it to the sideline, hand it to your coach.”
