The Denver Post is reporting Broncos star receiver Brandon Marshall is staying away from the team because he wants a pay raise.

Marshall is entering the final year of his contract. He may have a difficult time getting a new deal despite that fact that he is coming off consecutive 100-catch seasons. Marshall had hip surgery in March. He won't be ready to work until training camp. Also, Marshall has had many off-field issues.

Denver is unlikely to commit to Marshall long term until he proves he has no adverse affects from the hip surgery and until he can show he can stay out of legal trouble for an extended period of time. At this point, it wouldn't be a shock if Denver puts the franchise tag on Marshall after the 2009 season.

Meanwhile, ESPN's Outside the Lines will look at the domestic violence allegations against Marshall during Sunday's show. Last year, the NFL suspended Marshall for three regular-season games but reduced the suspension to one game, after Marshall appealed the discipline. The show airs at 9 a.m. ET on ESPN and at noon ET on ESPN2.
