TEMPE, Ariz. -- The end of Andre Ellington's run for the offensive rookie of the year is getting closer by the week.

He has dropped to sixth in yards gained by a rookie, far behind leader and probable winner Eddie Lacy. But that's what happens when Ellington isn't the primary back and won't be for the rest of this season unless an injury sidelines starter Rashard Mendenhall for the duration of the season.

Ellington was making progress, especially after his 154-yard outing against Atlanta, but then his production dropped off. In his three games since, Ellington had rushing outings of 55, 3 and 50 and games of 18, 10 and 21 receiving yards.

His impact hasn't been as great, although he's found a significant role in the Cardinals' offense. He's a good complement to Mendenhall, who will most likely get more of the carries going forward now that his speed is back.

While Ellington may not win rookie of the year, he is making a push to play in the postseason, something just one other competitor can say: Giovani Bernard of Cincinnati.
