But offense coordinator Harold Goodwin isn’t satisfied just yet.
“It’s still a work in progress,” he said. “I think the guys are getting better every day. We’re coaching them hard and I think they’re starting to get it.”
Goodwin added that the time to start gelling is Sunday -- not the middle of the season when everyone is comfortable with the offense. By then, it might be too late.
Fitzgerald talked about the new scheme while holding court in front of his locker Thursday, but he didn’t want to look back at last year. This season is all about moving forward.
“Last year is last year,” he said. “I put that to bed. Every year is different. You just got to go out there. (If) you look in the rear-view mirror, it’s hard for you to see what’s going on in front of you.
“Obviously I’m aware of what happened last year and I don’t want to ever repeat last year.”
