Flush the Pocket: Fitz rubs off on Roberts
By Josh Weinfuss
Flush the Pocket will be your daily morning dose of the Cardinals. It’ll recap the top storyline from the previous day, and give you a look at what everyone is saying locally and nationally.
TEMPE, Ariz. – Andre Roberts was the center of attention Wednesday inside the Cardinals’ locker room. His eight receptions for 97 yards Sunday against the Rams were a team high, but it was his toughness and subsequent resiliency that turned everyone’s heads.
He took some serious shots from the Rams, but each time, Roberts held on to the ball and then bounced back up.
"When the ball is thrown to him, he has a knack for making plays," Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer said. "He made a couple catches where he was interfered with and still made the catch when a lot of guys wouldn't. He did a good job of shielding the ball, using his body to get in between the ball and the defender. I hope he keeps doing it. I expect him to keep doing it."
Palmer also talked about him learning from "the best" -- Roberts is locker-room neighbors with Larry Fitzgerald -- and Palmer has seen subtle similarities between their games.
Even Cardinals coach Bruce Arians has seen Fitzgerald rubbing off on Roberts.
"Oh, yeah, he follows him around like a big brother," Arians said. "Everywhere I've ever seen Fitz I've seen Andre. That's a great guy to be following around."
