A weekly examination of the Cardinals' ESPN.com Power Ranking:
Preseason: 26 | Last Week: 21 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002
A loss -- a bad one at that -- and the Arizona Cardinals dropped only one place. The good thing for the Cardinals this week is there are 10 teams worse than them, including their Week 4 opponent, Tampa Bay (No. 31). Last week’s showing in New Orleans brought back memories -- check that, nightmares -- to the Arizona faithful who spent last year watching their team look baffled by the simplest objective in the game: moving the football. The offense punted on eight straight possessions after a beautiful opening drive that resulted in a touchdown. Against the Saints, the offense couldn’t find a rhythm with its running or passing game.
In reality, this team isn’t as bad as in years past, it just needs to tweak a few things and the offense can be as formidable as it’s shown at times. If it can correct its third-down issues, punter Dave Zastudil’s leg would be thankful and more points may appear on the board. And the Cardinals would be moving up this board.
They have a chance to get back on the winning road this weekend against the Buccaneers.
