Although Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith told 790 the Zone that tight end Tony Gonzalez would return to practice Friday, Gonzalez was not on the field during the portion of practice open to the media.
There a chance the veteran tight end took the field after media members exited.
Gonzalez missed the past two days of practice after injuring a toe on his left foot during last Sunday’s 33-10 loss to Seattle.
Smith also said receiver Harry Douglas, who missed Thursday’s practice with a knee injury after having full participation on Wednesday, should be ready to go on Sunday. Douglas was back on the field fielding punts at the beginning of practice.
As for Gonzalez, he hasn’t missed a game since the 2006 season. Smith expressed optimism about Gonzalez’s status even after not having the veteran on the field for two days.
"I would never count Tony Gonzalez out,'' Smith said Thursday. "Never.''
