FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- The numbers indicate just how much Matt Ryan struggles on the road.

In five road games this season, the Atlanta Falcons' quarterback has 11 interceptions, compared to one at home.

He posted a season-low 47.2 passer rating at Arizona just a week after setting a career-high with a 148.4 passer rating at home against Tampa Bay.

Ryan’s average completion percentage at home is 72.9 percent. On the road, it’s 61.7 percent.

The 2-9 Falcons are 0-5 on the road this season.

"I’m not sure why," Ryan said of struggling more on the road. "If I knew, obviously I’d be better on the road. It’s tough in this league sometimes to go on the road and play well; go into a hostile environment. I don’t know what the reason is for it. But certainly, I need to be better."

This Sunday’s road trip to Toronto the face Buffalo won’t make life any easier for Ryan. The Bills are tied for the league lead with 16 interceptions, led by rookie linebacker Kiko Alonso with four. Buffalo also is tied for first in the league with 37 sacks, led by Mario Williams with 11.

"Tough news for a quarterback," Ryan said with a sarcastic laugh. "But very good defense. When you turn on the film, extremely aggressive front seven. Really good defensive linemen. Kiko Alonso, their middle linebacker, is playing really, really well for a rookie. Flies around; makes a lot of plays.

"It’s going to be challenge for us, there is no doubt about it. I think guys will be up for it. I think we’ll be ready to go. And we’re going to find a way to try and get it done."

The Falcons talk every week about establishing the run, but it will be imperative this week so Ryan isn’t forced to throw so many times against a sometimes opportunistic Bills' defense.

"I think certainly controlling the line of scrimmage, both in the run game and in the pass game is going t be important for us," Ryan said. "I thought our guys did a nice job with that last week. We need to build on that this week. We need to be a little bit better than we were last week. But, yeah, certainly establishing the line of scrimmage against their front seven is going to be important."
