The Atlanta Falcons will host Miami in their preseason opener and also face Houston, Tennessee, and Jacksonville as the NFL announced the complete preseason schedule on Wednesday.
The dates and times for the games have yet to be announced. The Falcons will host the Titans and hit the road for games against the Texans and Jaguars.
The first exhibition against the Dolphins means new Falcons nose tackle Paul Soliai will face his former team immediately.
The preseason had a significant impact on the Falcons last year. Wide receiver Roddy White suffered a high-ankle sprain in the second exhibition against the Baltimore Ravens. It lingered into the regular season, and White didn't really regain his form until season's end. White reluctantly admitted he should have rested the ankle rather than play through the pain.
It makes you wonder if the Falcons will be more cautious with their impact players this preseason. Top receiver Julio Jones (foot) and left tackle Sam Baker (knee) are coming off season-ending surgeries, so the exhibitions will be their first live action in quite a while.
The Falcons are 7-17 in preseason games since Mike Smith took over in 2008. They've won just one preseason game over the past three seasons: a 23-6 win at Miami in 2012. The Falcons were 0-4 last preseason.
