Falcons report: Jackson still without helmet
By Vaughn McClure
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Atlanta Falcons running back Steven Jackson remained without a helmet for the start of Saturday's practice, another indication that he is not ready to return from a lingering hamstring injury.
Jackson hasn't practiced all week as the Falcons prepare to face the Jets on ESPN's "Monday Night Football.'' A source previously told ESPN.com Jackson wouldn't return until at least the Week 7 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He suffered the injury in a Week 2 win over the St. Louis Rams.
Jackson went on his personal blog to apologize to fans for not being on the field. He also said he wouldn't return until he was 100 percent healthy.
Head coach Mike Smith could rule Jackson out following Saturday's practice.
Also, cornerback Asante Samuel was in full gear and participated in individuals drills coming off a thigh injury. Samuel was limited Thursday after missing last week's game against the Patriots.
