A weekly analysis of the Falcons’ quarterback play.
Rewind: Matt Ryan threw for 304 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in a season-opening loss to the New Orleans Saints. Ryan had a chance to add to his long string of fourth-quarter comebacks, but that didn’t happen, as his throw to tight end Tony Gonzalez in the end zone in the closing seconds was intercepted.
Fast-forward: In the offeason, wide receiver Roddy White said the Falcons had the parts in place to be the best offense since “The Greatest Show on Turf" days of the Rams. Coincidentally, the Falcons will play the Rams this week. In their season-opening win against Arizona, the Rams showed a very potent defensive line, but their secondary struggled. You can bet the Falcons will try to exploit that secondary with White, Gonzalez and Julio Jones.
It starts up front: Atlanta’s revamped offensive line held the entire offense back in the opener. This line has to get better, and it has to happen in a hurry so the Falcons can take advantage of all the talent they have at the offensive skill positions.
Prediction: Ryan and the Falcons will rebound against the Rams. Ryan will throw for 300 yards and three touchdowns in a victory against St. Louis.
