If you can't wait until Sunday for Ray Lewis' return, the Wake-up caw should hold you over ...
Ray Lewis, who will be inducted into the Ravens' Ring of Honor, doesn't sound like someone who is regretting his decision to retire. “Honestly, since I’ve been done with the game, everything I’ve been doing -- if it’s not with ESPN -- it’s been with my kids," Lewis said on a conference call, via the team's website. "The time with them, just being there and them knowing that their dad is home, here to [relax] and doesn’t have to always be away. It’s the ultimate now. I appreciated the game, I love the game so much, but I can’t tell you that I have withdrawals [thinking] ‘I really miss the game.'"
Count Lewis among those who believe safety Ed Reed will make his 2013 debut against the Ravens on Sunday. Reed has missed the first two games because he hasn't fully recovered from hip surgery. “If he can’t go, then there’s still something really wrong,” Lewis said, via The Baltimore Sun.
John Eisenberg, of the team's official website, thinks the most indispensable Raven (other than Joe Flacco, of course) is wide receiver Torrey Smith. "Rice remains a central figure in the offense, but Bernard Pierce's rise has eased some of his burden and naturally made him less indispensable," Eisenberg wrote. "That would not be the case if the Ravens’ top receiver, Torrey Smith, went down similarly."
Wide receiver Brandon Stokley is doing what the Ravens signed him to do -- move the chains. All four of his catches came on third down, and three of them resulted in first downs."We have high hopes for Brandon as a third-down chain mover," coach John Harbaugh said, via Comcast SportsNet. "He was that (Sunday). ... He made some huge plays for us."
The Ravens are pleased with their depth in the front seven. “If you noticed, we didn’t have to keep our outside linebackers on the field the whole time,” Harbaugh said, via Comcast SportsNet. “We were rotating Terrell in and out of the game. Dumervil rotated with Courtney. Pernell was in the game for Terrell, played a lot on the run downs and did a real good job. The more guys you can play, the better off you’re going to be at every position.”
