Baltimore Ravens: 2014 Mel Kiper Mock 1.0

You may be disappointed if you're hoping the Baltimore Ravens will select a wide receiver or offensive lineman in the first round of May's NFL draft.

In Mel Kiper Jr.'s first mock draft of the year Insider, the Ravens are selecting North Carolina tight end Eric Ebron with the No. 16 overall pick. This comes as a mild surprise because the Ravens are expected to re-sign or put the franchise tag on Dennis Pitta.

The Ravens will likely address tight end at some point in the draft, especially if they don't re-sign Ed Dickson and Dallas Clark. By taking a tight end in the first round, the Ravens are saying they don't want to have a drop off at that position like they did this past season when Pitta got hurt, and they feel Ebron is a can't-miss prospect.

Ebron has good value in the middle of the first round. He led all ACC tight ends in receptions and built a reputation for making impressive catches on the outside and down the seam.

The Ravens, who will have a coin flip with the Dallas Cowboys next month to determine which team picks No. 16 and No. 17, have been linked to wide receivers in other mock drafts. Kiper has two wide receivers being taken before the Ravens are on the clock: Clemson's Sammy Watkins and Texas A&M's Mike Evans. He has the Ravens taking Ebron over wide receivers such as USC's Marqise Lee and Florida State's Kelvin Benjamin.
