The recent hiring of former Georgia defensive coordinator Willie Martinez will result in some changing responsibilities on coach Bob Stoops' staff at Oklahoma.

Martinez will coach the defensive backs, as has been his specialty throughout his coaching career. And veteran Bobby Jack Wright, who has been a member of Stoops' staff since his arrival at Oklahoma in 1999, will again coach the Sooners' defensive ends as he did earlier in his coaching career with the Sooners.

"Our staffs had been together exchanging ideas and I was impressed with Willie," Stoops said. "In those meetings, you not only get a feel for how well someone knows the game, but their ability to communicate and interact with other people, and Willie was a guy that represented himself and his school very well."

But Stoops, who has been heavily involved in defensive coaching throughout his career, promised to have a hand with the Sooners' secondary.

"I'll always have a hand in the secondary. I have since I've been here," Stoops said. "That's what I've coached forever, so I'll have a hand in the cornerbacks or the safeties, whatever we feel."
