Boise State coach Chris Petersen won’t be headed for the beach or the ski slopes for his spring break. He’ll be sticking around on the practice field.

Just not his own.

Petersen said Thursday he’ll head to Norman, Okla. and Eugene, Ore. to get an inside look at how Bob Stoops and Chip Kelly run their practices.

"Bob Stoops has done such a great job at Oklahoma over the years,” Petersen told the Idaho Statesman. “He’s got his formula on success. I just have a bunch of questions. And I want to watch how they practice.”

The last time Petersen and Stoops met on the field was pretty memorable. Another of the decade’s defining moments in the sport probably won’t emerge from this meeting, though it does suggest the absence of any hard feelings on Stoops' end about the 2007 Fiesta Bowl loss.

Last month, Texas coach Mack Brown met with Boise State assistant coaches (Boise coaches’ idea) in hopes of implementing some of those trick plays that have become the Broncos’ signature.

“I want to have more fun,” Brown told reporters before spring practice began. “Chris Petersen and Boise have done the best job with it. I want us to have more innovations.”

Though Petersen’s reputation was sealed in the win over Oklahoma, the Broncos busted out another game-breaking trick play in their win over TCU in the Fiesta Bowl last January. On its own 33-yard line, Boise State ran “Riddler,” a fake punt that set up the game-winning touchdown with a 30-yard pass from punter Kyle Brotzman to Kyle Efaw.
