Even before I began this blogging soujourn, I always eagerly awaited this time of year.
And it's not because of my love of crowded shopping malls, lame holiday parties or stale holiday fruitcakes, either.
Like the commercial says, "it is the most wonderful time of the year." And one of the major reasons for me will be the bowl games that will start tomorrow.
Having a chance to watch the Eaglebank, New Mexico, Magicjack St. Petersburg and Pioneer Las Vegas bowls will be intriguing for me. And not just because I graduated from Memphis, am curious about what Mike Stoops might have to say about the vacant Iowa State job or just trying to figure out exactly what a Magicjack is.
Bowl games are intriguing for me. And that's not even because of the proliferation of bowl pools or bowl games for that matter.
There will be 34 of these games in the next few weeks. And Saturday will be kind of my unofficial opening day when I try to watch as much as possible. Even though the Big 12 action won't kick off until the Dec. 29 Valero Alamo Bowl between Missouri and Northwestern, I'll try to catch us much action until then as is possible with a 4-year-old in the house commandering the remote control for another showing of "The Polar Express."
But first, forgive me as I try to pick a winner on the Independence Bowl game between Northern Illinois and Louisiana Tech. I've got a couple of pools to finish before the end of the day.
