Following suit with the Big Ten and SEC, the Big 12 will use high definition monitors for its official replay system.
Now, no blade of grass (the green ones, not the white ones) can hide from an official looking to see if a player dragged his foot inbounds.
“Big 12 football is paving the way for a new generation of officiating,” commissioner Dan Beebe said in a statement. “As one of the first to implement the XOS HD Replay system, our conference is leading the advancement of the emerging HD trend for officiating."
The conference partnered with XOS for its replay systems in 2005, but is now upgrading to HD. The company boasts its uncompressed video, which it says is clearer than what the viewer will see at home.
The SEC uses the company's HD replay capabilities, but Conference USA, the Pac-10, Sun Belt and Mid-American Conference still use only standard definition replay systems with the company.
