My esteemed colleague Mark Schlabach released his top 25 this afternoon, providing an interesting glimpse at how he thinks the national title race will play out.
Schlabach tweaked his top 25 from the end of the bowl season with special notice to the Big 12. He switched Texas and Oklahoma, placing the Sooners at No. 2 in his most recent poll and the Longhorns at No. 3. His major reason was the unexpected return of Sam Bradford, Gerald McCoy and Jermaine Gresham since the Sooners' loss to Florida in the FedEx BCS National Championship Game.
Other than that, Schlabach and I see the Big 12 breaking about the same way. He had Oklahoma State as his No. 10 team and third best in the conference. Nebraska was his No. 19 and Kansas was No. 20 -- just as I saw them.
And Texas Tech was among the two teams he dropped out of the Top 25. Maybe that has something to do with the Mike Leach vs. the athletic department skirmish that is playing out.
As always, Schlabach's work is exemplary. And it indicates the Big 12 again will be loaded at the top of the national polls.
