Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez only amplified the buzz that's surrounded his name throughout the summer, running for 126 yards and three touchdowns, highlighted by his 46-yard score on a zone read keeper that served as his first career carry and third play from scrimmage.

Freshmen are off-limits to the media, so tonight was the media's first chance to talk to Martinez since he's come to Nebraska.

Here's what Martinez and his running back, Rex Burkhead, had to say after the game, courtesy of Nebraska media relations:

On how hard he had to work to hone his quarterback skills to get to where he is now:

“I don’t think I had to work very hard to get to this point. I don’t know. I’ve had the ability to throw the ball since high school and have always been able to throw really well.”

On his first run that went for a touchdown

“At my last high school, the first time I carried the ball I scored a touchdown. And then right when I came here I was hoping I was going to do the same thing. I was hoping to score a touchdown for Nebraska and as it happened, I just ran.”

-- Taylor Martinez

“It was impressive. You got to see his speed and how he can get downfield in a hurry. He did a great job of making quick decisions and getting the offense in a routine.”

“He kind of picks up the energy through all of us. He is a big play threat every time he touches the ball. He makes everyone else want to make a big play.”

-- Rex Burkhead, running back
