Austen Arnaud started Saturday's game against Northern Iowa, but after going three-and-out on the opening series, gave way to backup Jerome Tiller. Arnaud suffered a bruised shoulder against Kansas State last week, briefly bringing Tiller into the game, but he later returned.

Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads declined to definitively name a starter on Monday, but Arnaud is still at No. 1 on the Cyclones' depth chart released on Monday.

"We’ve got a lot of confidence in Jerome, and that really has nothing to do with last week’s performance. It’s based on everything that he’s done since we’ve been here," Rhoads said.

Tiller started last season's 10-9 win against Nebraska in Lincoln after another Arnaud injury and played in a handful of other games as a freshman.

"He’s won games, he’s been a part of losses, he came off the bench a year ago against Baylor in a game that we won, came off the bench Saturday against UNI and we won," Rhoads said. "Based on practice repetition and physical ability, if he’s the guy and has to go the whole way Saturday, we won’t be overly concerned."

Tiller completed 11-of-22 passes for 87 yards against Northern Iowa and was sacked four times.

"We had some breakdowns in protection for the most part, some simple things we didn't pick up, some physical things that we didn't handle real well," Rhoads said. "Not really on Jerome's shoulders."

Arnaud has completed 63-of-109 passes for 590 yards and two touchdowns with five interceptions.
