Thankful for sunny skies in San Antonio

I'm not complaining about the blistering mid-August heat in San Antonio and bright, sunny skies for a change today. And there's a reason why.

The clear weather, hopefully, means my satellite shoot will come off as scheduled later Wednesday. Look for me and ESPN national college football writer Mark Schlabach to provide some hot sports opinion about some of the more pressing topics in college football on ESPN News beginning at 3:10 p.m. (CT) this afternoon.

I was set to do a similar shoot last Wednesday in Manhattan, Kan. I even got to appear on the same set that Ron Prince and Frank Martin use for their weekly coaches' shows. But alas, a freak thunderstorm knocked the transmission from the remote location I was set to use only seconds before I was set to appear.

I should have known something about storms and Kansas, at least after watching "The Wizard of Oz" all those times in my youth.

But sunny weather today should make the shoot come about. I'm looking forward to it.

And from there, I'm traveling to College Station to meet with Texas A&M coaches and players at their morning practice Thursday. New A&M coach Mike Sherman is said to be close to making a decision on his starting quarterback. Hopefully, it will come tomorrow.
