And he's got the hardware to prove it as a five-time winner of the Boss Hogg Award as the most productive Texas lineman in a Longhorn victory.
His continued development will be critical if the Longhorns are able to continue the potent offensive efforts that have marked his career.
Player: Adam Ulatoski
Team: Texas
Position: Tackle
Vitals: 6-foot-8, 306 pounds; Sr.; Southlake, Texas (Carroll)
Why he was picked: Over his career, Ulatoski has become one of the most productive linemen in the Big 12. He's started 30 games at Texas, with the first 16 in his career at right tackle before moving to left tackle before the Longhorns' Holiday Bowl victory over Arizona State in 2007. He's been the most productive lineman on Texas' team the last two years.
What 2009 will hold: Ulatoski has one of the most critical job on Texas' team this season -- protecting Colt McCoy at all costs. It also wouldn't hurt if he and the rest of the Texas line helped produce enough holes to enable the Longhorns' running game to improve from last season, when they ranked 41st nationally with an average of 167.5 yards per game. If that happens, the Longhorns should have a legitimate opportunity to challenge for the Big 12 South title and the national championship.
