Happy Monday.
Teams are doing their spring conditioning drills, even as many coaches are vacationing for the next couple of weeks.
But that doesn't mean we don't have links around here.
Here's a bountiful helping to go with your lunch.
- The Dallas Morning News' Kevin Sherrington writes about the mystique of Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine -- still strong after 50 years.
- The Topeka Capital-Journal's Austin Meek compares former Kansas State athletic director Bob Krause's role as a past adviser to KSU president Jon Wefald to the role former president Dick Cheney played in the Bush administration. And the Kansas City Star's Jason Whitlock writes that Wefald, Krause and Bill Snyder needed to be chopped down for the university to move forward.
- Paul Myersburg of the New York Times' fine "Quad" blog ranks Texas A&M as the nation's 72nd best team, but still expects the Aggies to win at least six games.
- Jake Trotter of the Oklahoman reports that Oklahoma recruit Terry Franklin failed to qualify academically and instead will be attending Tyler (Texas) Junior College.
- As Topeka Capital-Journal beat writer Tully Corcoran hears some of the things said around the Kansas program these days, he wonders if he's wandered into a dream.
- New papa Brent Zwerneman of the San Antonio Express-News reports on how Texas and Texas A&M, among other schools, are tightening their budgets because of the declining economy.
- West Des Moines Valley punter Kirby Van Der Kamp has accepted a scholarship offer from Iowa State even though he wasn't a regular on his team last season, Randy Peterson of the Des Moines Register reports.
- The Oklahoman has an interesting story about how former Oklahoma linebacker Pasha Jackson has gone to Cuba to study medicine with eventual plans of returning to America to provide health care to low-income families.
- The Lincoln Journal-Star's Brian Christopherson details how sportswriter Cy Sherman helped dub Nebraska athletic teams as Cornhuskers.
- Columbia Daily Tribune beat reporter Dave Matter ranks Texas A&M freshman running back Christine Michael as the new Big 12 player poised to make the biggest impact this season.
