Several Big 12 newspapers are really racheting up their techonological advances with podcasts and streaming video throughout the summer. It makes for a multi-media delight during the long wait until preseason practice begins.
And without much college football talk on the radio in these parts of South Texas, a couple of these reports were as welcome to me as a cold pitcher of lemonade on a 100-degree day, which it again promises to be here today.
So come here to help quench your thirst for football information on these hot days.
- Lincoln Journal-Star staffers Steve Sipple, Curt McKeever and Brian Christopherson talk about realistic expectations for Bo Pelini's second season.
- Lawrence Journal-World staffers Eric Sorrentino, Matt Tait and Jesse Newell have fun while they conduct a fantasy draft of Big 12 coaches in a podcast that's worth a listen.
- Former Kansas State athletic director Tim Weiser told Austin Meek of the Topeka Capital-Journal that he used the $500,000 loan from the school for a real estate purchase that was later repaid to the school with interest.
- Ryan Hybl, the little brother of former Oklahoma quarterback Nate Hybl, has been hired as Oklahoma's new golf coach, the Oklahoman's John Rohde reports.
- Pete Fiutak of College Football News ranks Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy as No. 5 on his listing of coaches with the hottest seats in the country.
- The Kansas City Star's Joe Posnanski include Kansas State among the second group of schools he profiles in his "True to Your School" parlor game on his blog.
- Former Oklahoma offensive lineman and Texas A&M technology guru Milton Overton was hired to Alabama's senior athletic executive staff, Gentry Estes of the Mobile Press-Register reports.
- Colorado has added its third local product to the 2010 recruiting class with the verbal commitment of Chatfield tight end Kyle Slavin to the program, the Boulder Daily Camera reports.
- The Lincoln Journal-Star's Brian Christopherson reports about former Nebraska linebacker Pat Tyrance, who now is as an orthopedic surgeon in Omaha and was nominated Monday into the CoSIDA Academic All-America Hall of Fame.
- The signing of Iowa State punter Kirby Van Der Kamp shows that production and promise trump previous football playing experience, Des Moines Register beat writer Randy Peterson reports.
