In downsized FBS, which Big 12 teams should be trimmed?
Posted by ESPN.com's Tim Griffin
My colleagues at ESPN.com have come up with a great idea that will be a major story focus for us over the next several days.
Namely, if there was a relegation process to only 40 teams in the FBS division of college football, which teams would be picked. Yes, we're asking which teams should be included in the ultimate "super conference" if it was based on yearly performance rather than birthright into established conferences.
Sorry Baylor, and likely a few other Big 12 teams as well.
Pat Forde provides an intriguing primer for the idea behind relegation. Forde might be our ultimate populist in terms of college sports, but he still spells out several compelling reasons why the relegation idea would work.
Forde and national writers Mark Schlabach and Ivan Maisel will have a live draft beginning at 1 p.m. ET on Tuesday where each will pick their programs that make the 40-team cut.
And we're not hogging all of the fun here. Please feel free to make your own choices in a SportsNation poll that is available by following this link.
Have fun with this project and let us know who you are lopping off from the Big 12 and why.
It should be a lot of fun and also extremely enlightening.
