Colorado moves 2009 game with CSU back to Boulder

Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn announced Friday that the Buffaloes will exercise an option in their contract for their annual rivalry game with Colorado State and move the 2009 game in the series to Folsom Field in Boulder.
Bohn had hinted at such a move in order to allow his team to have six games that season as a revenue source. He notified Colorado State athletic director Paul Kowalczyk of his decision on Friday as the two schools continue to talk about extending the annual series beyond 2010.
Bohn said that if the Colorado-CSU game was moved to Denver next year, it would place his school below the competitive standard for Bowl Championship Series programs.
"Forty-four of the 66 BCS schools are playing at least a seven-game home schedule this year," Bohn said. "And four of those teams are playing eight home games, including Nebraska in our own conference."
Every Big 12 team will play at six home games this season and seven conference schools - Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech will play home games.
Colorado State has talked about keeping its home game in the series in Denver. The Rams can either host the game in Fort Collins or Denver in 2010.
It will be interesting to see if this decision by Colorado drives a wedge in their rivalry with Colorado State, who have met each season since 1995. Every game in the series has been played in Denver since 1998, except for a two-year period where it was played in Boulder in 2004 and 2005.
If the Colorado-CSU series ended, a possible candidate that would be intriguing for fans in the Centennial State would be resumption of the Buffaloes series against the Air Force Academy. The two schools haven't played since 1974.
