It's a getaway day around here, but I couldn't leave for the airport without getting together a few links together to munch on along the way.
  • The Des Moines Register’s Sean Keeler writes about how Iowa State overcame limited communications with faulty headsets and still beat North Dakota State in Paul Rhoads’ first career game as a head coach.
  • The Omaha World-Herald’s Lee Barfknecht reports on the issues that have swirled around Oklahoma State since Mike Gundy’s celebrated media blackout was instituted late last month.
  • Baylor looks for a fast start in a tough season-opening game against Wake Forest, the Waco Tribune-Herald’s John Werner reports. The Bears’ game is the only true road game for a Big 12 team this weekend.
  • Kansas State coach Bill Snyder is still keeping his emotions in check -- just like he did when he started his head-coaching career 20 years ago, the Kansas City Star/Wichita Eagle’s Kellis Robinett reports.
  • The Topeka Capital-Journal's Tully Corcoran reports that after repeatedly struggling last season, special-teams improvement has been a prime goal for Kansas.
  • John Henderson of the Denver Post looks at 10 prime questions facing the Big 12 this season.
  • The different expectations at Baylor and Texas A&M are analyzed by the Dallas Morning News.
  • A reinvigorated Mack Brown doesn’t appear to be ready to give up coaching, the San Antonio Express-News’ Mike Finger writes.
  • Steve Sipple of the Lincoln Journal-Star writes that the case to play backup quarterback Cody Green appears fairly clear for Nebraska.
  • Colorado’s season-ticket base has shrunk about 4 percent from last season, Kyle Ringo of the Boulder Daily Camera reports.
